John C BordenJohn Borden has spent the last 12 years as a business executive and corporate attorney, with a focus on software, hardware, medical devices and related business and intellectual property matters. His clients range from privately held software companies to medium and large businesses that are frequent purchasers of technology products and services.


John’s clients benefit from his meaningful experience as well as his personalized service, attention to detail and penchant for negotiating deals. His broad base of experience includes: Technology development, licensing, outsourcing and general commercial agreements; channel agreements; technology export controls; intellectual property audits; trademark and copyright registration; Internet & e-commerce issues, including terms of use & privacy policies, domain disputes and cybersquatter issues; employment and contractor agreements; strategic partnerships and joint ventures; corporate finance and venture capital and mergers and acquisitions.


John is active in the Atlanta technology community and a frequent speaker and author. Recent speaking engagements include the Institute of Continuing Legal Education’s Annual Biotechnology Symposium, Wings for Angles, Emory University’s SBIR Funding Seminar and the Georgia Computer Law Institute. He has also served in leadership roles with First Tuesday Atlanta, Techbridge and the Computer Law Section of the Georgia Bar.


In addition to his legal experience, John has served in C-level roles at two venture capital-backed companies. In 2003, John was recruited to serve as EVP and COO of Lightyear Technology, a leading provider of digital x-ray solutions for the dental market. John served as an officer and director of Lightyear until it was acquired by a large manufacturer of medical imaging products in December 2006. From 2000 through 2002, John served as the Chief Operating Officer of LearningSoft Corporation, a global provider of e-Learning solutions. At LearningSoft, John was instrumental in securing over $13M in venture capital as well as developing key strategic partnerships and negotiating complex licensing agreements in Europe and South America, facilitating the company’s international business growth.


John graduated in the top 10% from The University of Georgia School of Law where he was elected to the Order of the Coif and served as Managing Editor of The Journal of Intellectual Property Law. Prior to joining Trusted Counsel®, he practiced law with the firms of McKenna Long & Aldridge and Brock & Clay and was a founding partner of the Red Hot Law Group.
